Guaraná(waranã) is sacred to the Sateré-Mawé of the Amazon. Symbolizing vitality and renewal, its origin is linked to the eyes of a child who died prematurely. It began to be exported in the 18th century, but it was in the 1970s that it became a commodity, being widely produced for syrups and soft drinks. For experts, this process ignored the cultural significance for indigenous people and negatively impacted the local economies of the Amazon.
