Rue
RUTA GRAVEOLENS
Origin MEDITERRANEAN EUROPE, NORTH AFRICA
Active ingredient RUTIN
MEDICINAL, RITUAL use
Rue, known for its protective properties, is traditionally used by candomblé saints and benzedeiras in purification rituals to ward off the "evil eye" and promote harmony. These rituals, such as baths and smokings, cleanse the body and soul. In Umbanda, rue is associated with Oxossi and, in the Yoruba religion, with Exu. Used with lavender and rosemary, its power is amplified, ridding environments of negative energy.
